Troopers harassing people for not voting: Geelani
Srinagar, May 10: In Srinagar, Chairman of the Tehree-k-e-Hurriyat Jammu and Kashmir, Syed Ali Geelani has said that people of Tral and other areas of South Kashmir are being harassed by Indian troopers for boycotting sham polls.
A statement of Geelani issued here quoted the senior resistance leader as saying that troopers masquerading as Mujahids barge into the houses of common masses in Tral. “They harass people on one pretext or the other,” he said. Condemning the use of force on the innocent protestors, Geelani said: “Indian troopers and Indian police personnel used relentless force against the peaceful protestors but it cannot suppress the voice of people.”
Geelani also said that the people of North Kashmir are being harassed by the Indian army and other agencies forcing them to vote on May 13. “Voting corresponds to treason with sacrifices of masses. Kashmiri people will fight the Indian oppression till people get their right to self-determination,” said Geelani.
He also reiterated the 50-hour strike call from Monday evening to Wednesday evening.He said that in Bomai Sopore and other areas, PDP, NC and other pro-India political party activists work hand in glove with local police and involve the freedom loving youth in different fake cases. Geelani also condemned the continuous house arrests and detentions of pro-freedom leaders including Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai. RK
