Kashmiris urge Obama to persuade India out of Kashmir

Islamabad, May 15: US President Barack Obama’s direct appeal to the Tamil Tigers and the Sri Lankan government to “to step back” from the zone of conflict to spare civilian lives has provided a good parallel to the self-determination-denied Kashmiris to urge the US President to launch a similar persuasion on India to vacate 78 per cent territory of Kashmir under her (India) military occupation to allow return of lasting peace to South Asia.

A study carried on Thursday by Pakistan Observer revealed that Kashmiris want global sensitization of their six decades old dispute as UN Security Council agenda item. “The continued denial of right to self-determination to the people of Jammu and Kashmir by India leaves the dispute unsolved, people agitated and South Asia embroiled in bitterness and enchained to constant conditions of non-peace”, intellectuals concluded.

Kashmiri circles said that the dispute of Kashmir has assumed highest abnormality as three nuclear powers- China, Pakistan and India – are directly involved in it. “An unsettled Kashmir is the biggest cancer in South Asia poisoning the regional relations and belittling the honor of the UN Security Council who through various resolutions had promised 59 years ago holding of international plebiscite in Jammu and Kashmir to decide its future.

That is an unfulfilled documented pledge of the United Nations Organization. President Barack Obama should divert his attention towards resolution of this bloody tangle also”, Kashmiris appealed. PO
