APHC leader not shifted to Srinagar jail
Srinagar, March 10: In Srinagar, the authorities has said that the illegally detained Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party, Shabir Ahmad Shah will not be shifted from a prison in Kathua to the Central jail in Srinagar claiming reasons as the jails in the Kashmir valley were overcrowded.
Justice Yaqoob Mir had directed the authorities on February 26 to shift the detainee following an application filed by Shah's wife Bilquees.
Shah's counsel advocate Mian Abdul Qayoom said as a general rule the detainees need to be lodged nearer to their residence. 56-year-old Shah was booked under draconain Public Safety Act (PSA) on February 12.
On the other hand, a delegation of World Red Cross Committee led by Dr Laurent Sibilia met with the Acting Chairman of Jammu Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party and other party leaders at the residence of illegally detained senior Hurriyet leader, Shabir Ahmad Shah in Srinagar.
The party leaders apprised the delegation of the deteriorating condition of Shabir Shah in jail who had been suffering from several diseases due to non-availability of hygienic food and proper medical treatment in jail.
The delegation of World Red Cross Committee was further told that the puppet authorities despite the orders of the Srinagar High Court were not shifting the senior leader from Kathua Jail to Srinagar Central Jail.
Dr Laurent Sibilia and other members of the delegation on the occasion expressed concern over the deteriorating condition of Shabir Shah in jail and said that they would take up the issue with the authorities and would also meet with Shabbir Shah in jail.
Meanwhile, the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Movement (JKPM) has expressed grave concern over the deteriorating health condition of illegally detained senior leader, Shabbir Ahmad Shah. He appealed the international human rights organizations to take cognisance of the worsening conditions of Kashmiri detainees, languishing in different jails inside and outside the occupied territory.
Demanding an immediate release of all the pro-freedom leaders and activists, he urged the world community to impress upon India to release all the Kashmiri detainees. “India has completely failed to suppress the Kashmiris’ just struggle for their right to self-determination through use of brute force,” he said.
