7 Indian army personnel swept away by an avalanche in Kupwara

Srinagar, January 24 : Five Indian army men and two Border Security Force (BSF)  personnel were buried under an avalanche in Kupwara district today. The army has started major rescue operations and rescue teams have been launched by army helicopter

The spokesperson of Indian army's Srinagar-based 15 Corps, Lt Col J S Brar, told media men that an avalanche struck one of the army posts in Keran area of the district. He said that seven troopers were trapped under the avalanche. “A rescue operation has been started," he added. "Five army soldiers and two BSF (Border Security Force) troopers were trapped under the avalanche. A rescue operation has been started," he added.

On the other hand, at least three persons were killed when a car, they were travelling in, fell into a deep gorge near Mehar in Ramban on Srinagar-Jammu highway. Five persons were injured in various road accidents across the Kashmir Valley. News agencies
