2 persons sustains bullet in Zaldagar
Srinagar, August 2: Two persons sustained bullet injuries after paramilitary CRPF opened fire at them in Zaldagar locality here while as life remained crippled across the Valley on Thursday. Two persons identified as Riyaz Ahmad Balloo son of Manzoor Ahmad of Feteh Kadal and Sajid Ahmad son of Abdul Rashid of Karfuli Mohalla, here were injured when personnel of CRPF’s 144 opened fire to disperse them near Zaldagar here this evening.
A police spokesman said that the forces fired tear smoke shells to disperse the stone-pelting mob there. However, they did not relent after which forces fired rubber pallets.
“The condition of both the persons is stated to be stable so far,” the spokesman said.
In Srinagar, the capital city, thousands of paramilitary CRPF troops and policemen armed with sophisticated weapons and riot gear guarded the deserted streets, lanes and by lanes to foil any attempt of the people to stage pro-freedom demonstrations. At many places, troops and police had laid barbed wires spread across the roads and important intersections to prevent the movement of the people and the vehicles. Troops had blocked many roads leading to sensitive areas with the armored vehicles.
In old city of Srinagar, restrictions were more intense. At Nowhatta and the adjoining areas considered to be the hotbed of separatism, hundreds of paramilitary personnel and police restricted the movement of people.
“Whenever pro-freedom group calls for a strike, the old city is placed under siege. We’re used to curfew and curbs now,” Basharat Rasool, a resident of Gojwara said.
“Like the past days, CRPF men and police enforced strict restrictions in the area today. They didn’t even allow children to play in parks,” he added. In Islamabad district of South Kashmir where forces killed a teenage boy last evening, curfew continued for the fifth consecutive day today.
Reports said CRPF and police enforced strict curfew in Lazibal, Nai Basti, Janglat Mandi, Cheeni Chowk, Lal Chowk, Reshi Bazar, Sarnal, KP Road, Mattan chowk and other areas which witnesses violent clashes between protesters and forces after Irshad Ahmad Parray, a teenager died in forces action. Meanwhile, hundreds of people today staged peaceful demonstrations in various parts of the Valley. Reports said hundreds of people after offering Zuhr prayers staged peaceful pro-freedom demonstrations in Nagam, Chadura, Mochou and Galwanpora of Budgam district.
Langate, Yunsoo, Tujjer, Kralgun in the frontier Kupwara district also witnesses pro-freedom demonstrations. At Palhalan, in the Baramulla district police opened fire to disperse a group of youth who staged pro-freedom and ant-India demonstrations. However, no one was injured in the incident. (PBI)
